Redhawks Fill Up The Nets In 91-74 Win Over Vikings

Seattle, WA – Quality shooting almost always determines the outcome of a basketball game. And it couldn't have been more obvious in Wednesday's contest between the Portland State Vikings and the Seattle Redhawks at Climate Pledge Arena. Rebounding (31-30), turnovers (11-10), assists (15-15) and steals (5-3) were virtually even. It was Seattle's shooting that stood out in a 91-74 win over the Vikings.

Seattle posted a .527 field goal percentage, including 11-20 (.550) from three-point range, and made 22-24 free throws (.917) as well. A cold spell in the first half for the Vikings allowed the Redhawks to build a double-digit lead and PSU did not recover.

The Vikings finished at a respectable .469 from the floor, but struggled from deep (7-23) and at the line (.500).

PSU led 7-6 just a few minutes into the game following a dunk from Tre-Vaughn Minott. But the Vikings proceeded to miss their next 10 shots from the field. Seattle ran off 16 points in a row and led 22-7 with 12 minutes left in the first half.

The Vikings finally got to work inside, getting another dunk from Minott, one from Isaiah Johnson, and points from Terri Miller Jr. They closed the gap to six on several occasions before Seattle took a 40-32 halftime lead. PSU had 20 of its 32 points inside.

Foul trouble early in the second half doomed the Vikings. Seattle hit six straight free throws in the opening four minutes, and stacked on a pair of three-point field goals. The Redhawks were up 16 points at 54-38 and PSU never got closer than 13 the rest of the way.

Portland State saw its two-game winning streak fall and is now 4-4 on the season. Seattle, which has played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation, improved to 3-5.

Qiant Myers had 15 points and six assists to lead the Vikings. Johnson pitched in 13 points and six rebounds. Shane Nowell scored 11 points with four rebounds.

The Vikings scored 44 points in the paint, but were out-scored by 27 points from the three-point line and free throw line.

John Christofilis led the Redhawks with 22 points and Paris Dawson added 19 as the tandem combined for an 8-11 mark from three-point range. Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
