Portland State running back
Delon Thompson picked up national recognition Tuesday as a member of the third annual FCS Football Central Freshman All-American team.
Thompson earned the honor after rushing for 678 yards on 4.9 yards per carry and seven touchdowns this past fall. He rushed for a career-high 117 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown in the Vikings' road game at Montana. He finished with 84 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns in the team's 58-38 road win at Sacramento State.
Thompson ranked 10th in the Big Sky this season while averaging 61.6 yards per game. He ranked sixth among all freshmen in FCS football with that average, while he also ranked tied for sixth in rushing touchdowns and fifth in yards per carry among his classmates.
Additionally, Thompson contributed to a team rushing attack that ranked 11th nationally with 203.2 yards per game.
A total of 69 players across 52 FCS programs made the FCS Football Central Freshman All-American team Tuesday. Thompson was one of seven running backs honored along with CharMar Brown of North Dakota State, Adam Jones of Montana State, David Avit of Villanova, Jason Collins of Morgan State, Steve Hall of Lindenwood and Rodney Nelson of Monmouth.
