Vikings Roll to 7-0 Win Over Chaminade

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Portland State women's tennis team closed out its trip to Hawaii on Friday with a dominant 7-0 sweep of Chaminade University at the Diamond Head Tennis Center. The Vikings improved to 8-10 overall while the Silverswords fell to 0-9 on the year.

"It was great to get outside and play a lot of tennis this week," Viking senior Emily Rees said. "It was an amazing experience on and off the court. We're excited to take the lessons we learned this week and finish the conference season strong."

Portland State took control early and never looked back. The Vikings swept the doubles portion on their way to the opening point, dropping just one game over the three matches. Nika Beukers and Nell Arendt teamed up at the No. 1 spot, earning a 6-0 win over Sydney Danielson and Molly Cookman. Also winning 6-0 were Rees and Makoto Ohara on court two. Maddie Egan and Elizabeth Strongina completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory at the No. 3 spot.

With six straight-set victories in singles, the Vikings cruised to the 7-0 victory. PSU was dominant on every court, outscoring the Silverswords 72-5. Arendt and Strongina blanked their opponents 6-0, 6-0 on courts two and four. Rees clinched the match for Portland State with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5. Also winning 6-1, 6-0 were Beukers at No. 1 singles and Ohara on court three. Egan secured her fourth win of the season with a 6-2, 6-0 performance at the six spot to close out the day.
