Delaney Nicoll Set to Join Vikings Ahead of 2023 Fall Season

PORTLAND, Ore. — A deep gym fosters a competitive team. That's long been a belief of Portland State head volleyball coach Michael Seemann. To that end, the Vikings added their fourth transfer of the offseason as Delaney Nicoll, who played parts of three seasons at Idaho, has signed with the Vikings.

"Delaney has the capabilities to have an impact on either pin. She is physical, and has significant collegiate playing experience," Seemann said of Nicoll.

Nicoll played only six matches this past fall, but was a standout player for the Vandals during their 2021 fall campaign. Nicoll averaged 3.01 kills per set for the Vandals, ranking her just outside of the top 10 of the Big Sky in the category. Nicoll also averaged 2.51 digs per set that season, when she totaled nine double-doubles, including three 15-15 matches.

She set her career highs for kills and digs in the same match, as she finished with 25 kills on .217 hitting to go with 19 digs in a five-set loss to Eastern Washington on Oct. 14, 2021. In Idaho's lone match against the Vikings that season, Nicoll led the Vandals with 12 kills.

Nicoll won't be a stranger to Portland-area volleyball, having prepped at Ridgefield High School in Ridgefield, Wash. She was a two-time 2A State Player of the Year at Ridgefield while winning back-to-back state titles in 2018 and 2019. She was also the 2019 Washington State Prep Volleyball Player of the Year.

Nicoll will not play for the Vikings this spring, instead joining the team over the summer ahead of their 2023 fall season. She will be a senior academically, though a junior athletically with the option of a third year of eligibility.
