GREELEY, Colo. — It's time to come home.
The Portland State women's basketball team – in the middle of a 10-game stretch that spans only 22 days between Jan. 27 to Feb. 17 – felt the effects of its busy schedule Monday night at Northern Colorado. The Bears led 13-0 early, then used a 17-0 run in the middle of the second quarter to take all the drama out of an eventual 93
-45 victory.
Nothing seemed to go right for the Vikings (5-15, 0-12 Big Sky) Monday. Before
Jada Lewis hit two three-pointers in the final three minutes of the game, the Vikings were just 2-of-25 (.080) from three-point range as a team. The Bears (9-11, 5-7 Big Sky), meanwhile, shot better than 50 percent in every quarter Monday while outshooting the Vikings .589-to-.277. The Bears also went 11-of-17 (.647) from three-point range, with their 64.7 percent shooting percentage marking a season-high for a Viking opponent from the outside.
Three straight triples by Northern Colorado's Micayla Isenbart came as part of the Bears' 17-0 run in the second quarter. The Bears outscored the Vikings 28-8 in the second period, then stretched the lead to as many as 48 with a 26-10 third quarter.
No Viking scored in double figures Monday.
Rhema Ogele led the Vikings with eight points on 4-of-5 shooting in only 11 minutes, 37 seconds of game time.
Syd Schultz and
Mia 'Uhila followed Ogele with seven points each.
Savannah Dhaliwal tied for the game-high with 10 rebounds in the game, while adding five points, three assists and two steals.
The Vikings return home for a pair of games against the Montana schools this weekend. The Vikings host Montana State Thursday at 6 p.m., then face Montana Saturday at 2 p.m. at Viking Pavilion.
Game Notes: The Vikings fell to 10-22 all-time against Northern Colorado following Monday's loss…The Vikings haven't won at Northern Colorado since they beat the Bears 89-71 on Feb. 19, 2009…Lewis' two late three-pointers extended her streak of games with at least one three-pointer to 14 games.
