BEAVERTON, Ore. – The Portland State women's tennis team finished the weekend with a 4-0 win over UC Irvine at Tualatin Hills Babette Horenstein Tennis Center, improving to 4-3 on the season.
The Vikings went 2-0 this weekend following a 7-0 sweep of Seattle on Friday. The Anteaters fell to 1-6 overall.
"I think the team really came together today and played for each other," said senior Jacinta Milenkoski. "We had a really good match on Friday, and we just wanted to keep that rolling today. There were a lot of battles on all of the courts and I think we did a great job supporting each other to get the win."
The Vikings put themselves in a good position to start, clinching the first point of the day with a pair of doubles wins. Nika Beukers and Capu Sanoner cruised to a 6-2 victory on court one before Maddie Egan and Makoto Ohara notched a 6-3 victory on court three to put the Vikings on top.
Milenkoski and Mariajose Hernandez Coronado made quick work of their opponents in singles play. Hernandez Coronado took care of business in dominating fashion on court five, defeating Mia Totah 6-1, 6-0. Winning with ease on court six, Milenkoski pulled the Vikings within one point of clinching the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Shreya Pavani.
Sealing the deal in the top spot for PSU was Sanoner. The sophomore won her second consecutive match at No. 1, defeating Ysabel Gonzalez Rico 6-2, 7-5.
