Vikings Roll Over Portland Bible College, 114-31

Portland, OR – The outcome was expected, but the results were dramatic on Wednesday night. Portland State trounced an undermanned Portland Bible College team, 114-31, at Viking Pavilion.

The Vikings, a Division I member of the Big Sky Conference, had a decided advantage over the National Christian College Athletic Association team. They won every facet of the game, out-shooting the Arrows, .605 to .250, out-rebounding them, 51-17, and forcing 25 turnovers while only committing six.

Portland State has now won two games in a row, evening its record at 4-4. It was also the seventh straight home win dating to last season. The Vikings will try to extend that streak on Saturday in a 1 p.m. game against Air Force at Viking Pavilion.

The Vikings wasted no time taking charge and scored the first 38 points of the game. Portland Bible did not get on the board until DaMetris Weatherall hit a three-pointer with 7:16 remaining in the first half.

By halftime PSU was on top 63-9. The Vikings were shooting 27-43 from the field (.628) and held the Arrows to 3-19 shooting (.158). PSU forced 17 first-half turnovers, making 13 steals and creating numerous run-outs.

Jorell Saterfield, PSU's leading scorer this season, made 7-8 first-half shots and led the Vikings with 17 points in 12 minutes. He did not play in the second half.

The second half was much the same as the Vikings reached 100 points with nearly nine minutes remaining on the clock. PSU slowed the pace on offense and took a comfortable 82-point win.

The winning margin was not the highest in school history, nor was the opponent point total the lowest. PSU played all 12 available players at least 10 minutes each and all 12 scored. In fact, the Viking bench players scored 72 of the 114 total.

Bobby Harvey came off the bench for a team-high 18 points, making 7-12 shots and 4-8 three-point field goals in 16 minutes off the bench.. Hayden Curtiss had 14 points (6-8 FG, 2-3 3-pt) and six rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.

Keshaun Saunders led the Vikings with a team season-high 11 assists in the game. PSU assisted on 32 of 46 made baskets.

Jacob Eyman grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Vikings.

GAME NOTES
  • PSU had a total of 20 steals in the game, led by Keshaun Saunders with four.
  • The 114 points are the most by a Viking team since PSU beat Portland Bible, 123-40 on Dec. 1, 2018.
  • Portland State is 56-2 vs. lower division opponents since reinstating basketball and joining the Big Sky Conference in 1996-97.
  • Portland State will host the Air Force Academy on Saturday in a 1 p.m. game presented by Les Schwab. At halftime there will be a Teddy Bear Toss. Viking fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear or stuffed animal to the game and participate in the halftime toss. All of the stuffed animals will be donated to Les Schwab's Toy Drive (https://www.lstoydrive.org/)... the Portland State's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is partnering by hosting a holiday pre-game gathering and encouraging athletes to bring bears to donate.
