Vikings Put Up Most Points In Four Years, Roll Over Geoducks, 113-40

Portland, OR – Seven players scored in double figures and Portland State put up its most points in four years as the Vikings trounced Evergreen, 113-40, in their home opener at Viking Pavilion.

PSU led wire-to-wire and the game was never in doubt, but an explosive second half in which the Vikings made 11 three-point field goals sealed the deal.

The win moves Portland State to 1-2 on the season heading into a weekend matchup at Oregon State. Evergreen, an NAIA school from Olympia, WA, dropped to 0-4.

Junior guard Isiah Kirby came off the bench for a team-high 16 points and seven rebounds. Kirby made 6-8 from the field, 4-5 at the line and added three assists and two steals.

Senior guard Cameron Parker and junior guard Jorell Saterfield each scored 15 points. Saterfield added 10 rebounds for his first double-double as a Viking. Parker passed off for a game-high seven assists.

Portland State had runs of 11 straight and nine straight points in the first half building a comfortable lead of 24-5 with 7:48 left in the half.

Parker led the way on offense, hitting all four of his shots, three of which were triples, and had 11 points at halftime. The Vikings led 44-19.

The only blemish on an otherwise solid half of play for the Vikings was turnovers. The Vikings committed 13 as the Geoducks fast-handed away eight steals, six by Lane Kennedy.

Five three-pointers in the first four minutes of the second half pushed the PSU lead to 61-23. Bobby Harvey had nine points and Saterfield scored eight in the 17-4 Viking run.

From there, everyone got into the act as no player competed for more than 22 minutes and none for less than eight. PSU's bench (66) scored more than its starters (47).

"We have a lot of depth and a lot of talent on this team, and guys that can do different things. We feel really confident playing anyone on our team," said Viking Coach Jase Coburn.

PSU shot .587 from the field in the second half and cut their turnovers to five. That opened the floodgates for a 69-21 edge and the eventual 113-40 final score.

"Our intensity level and playing inspired really picked up in the second half. That's how we need to play every time we step on the floor; inspired. It was a lot cleaner game for us in the second half," Coburn said.

The Vikings had a 59-26 advantage on the backboards and forced the Geoducks into 24 turnovers, converting them into 32 points.

Evergreen was led by 11 points and seven rebounds from Jayden Upshaw. Kennedy had 10 points and six steals.
