Rielly Named Ready Nutrition Big Sky Player of the Week

OGDEN, Utah — After leading the Vikings to an 85-66 win over defending-champion Northern Colorado in the de facto Big Sky game of the week Saturday, senior guard Sidney Rielly has been named the Ready Nutrition Big Sky Player of the Week Tuesday.

Rielly becomes the third different Viking to be named Big Sky Player of the Week this season, joining Ashley Bolston (POTW on Dec. 17) and Kylie Jimenez (POTW on Dec. 26). Tuesday's honor also marked the second Big Sky Player of the Week award of Rielly's career, as she was also named player of the week on Jan. 17, 2017, back in her first year as a Viking.

Rielly earned her latest honor after scoring a team-high 22 points against the Bears Saturday. Rielly went 9-of-14 from the field against the Bears while adding four rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal. Rielly was also part of the Vikings' guard rotation that held last season's Big Sky MVP Savannah Smith to only five points in the game, and shut her out entirely in the second half. Smith hadn't scored as few as five points in a Big Sky game since she was a redshirt freshman and scored three points against Montana State on Jan. 16, 2016.

The Vikings as a team handed the Bears their worst Big Sky loss since Jan. 19, 2013, with their 19-point win Saturday. Additionally, the win snapped a seven-game losing streak for the Vikings against the Bears, and marked their biggest win in the series in over 10 years.

Rielly also led the Vikings with 19 points in their 74-58 win over Sacramento State on Thursday. Rielly scored 17 of her 19 points after halftime, as the Vikings turned a tied game at the break into a blowout with a 17-3 run at the start of the third quarter. Rielly hit three shots from beyond the arc during that run, after starting the game 0-for-4 from three-point range.

Rielly has scored in double figures in 10 straight games for the Vikings, and has scored 17 or more points in eight of those games. Rielly leads the Big Sky with a .484 three-point field goal percentage in conference games, and ranks fifth in the conference for three-pointers made per game (2.5), as well as seventh in points per game (16.5) and field goal percentage (.497) in Big Sky play.

Rielly passed Eryn Jones (2008-12) for seventh all time in career scoring at Portland State in the Vikings' win over the Bears Saturday. Rielly also moved into a tie for fifth all time in 20-point games with the 24th of her career, and also moved into a tie for ninth all time with her 66th-career 10-point game.

Rielly and the Vikings open a four-game road trip with a game at Northern Arizona Thursday. The Vikings and Lumberjacks tip off at 6:30 p.m. (MT) in Flagstaff, Ariz.
