Malibu, CA – Portland State shot the ball well against Pepperdine, until they didn't. And when the Viking offense dried up, the Waves took over down the stretch, producing a 77-71 win at Firestone Fieldhouse.

PSU led the entire first half and parts of the second half, before things got away. The Vikings made 11 three-pointers in the first 32 minutes. They led 67-60 with 7:18 to play, but that's when everything changed. Pepperdine went on a 17-4 run to close out the game.

Matt Hauser made a three-pointer with 8:12 left in the game, then the Vikings made three more free throws over the next minute for a seven-point advantage. But they missed 10 straight field goal attempts after that over a span of 7:31.

On the other end, Pepperdine's star guard Colbey Ross was doing his thing. Ross scored 11 points and had one assist down the stretch to lead the Waves.

Ross finished the game with 31 points and five assists as Pepperdine won its third straight and improved to 6-6. Big man Kameron Edwards had 20 points and 12 assists for the Waves.

Holland Woods had 23 points and four assists to lead the Vikings, making 4-9 three-pointers in the game.
Matt Hauser added 14 points, hitting 4-7 threes.

Portland State shot the three-pointer well early and that staked the Vikings to a first-half lead. PSU led for the first 20 minutes. A Hauser layin with six minutes left gave the Vikings their largest lead at 33-23. The Waves pulled within 38-32 by halftime.

PSU was shooting 46% at halftime while Pepperdine was at just 31%. The Vikings had six three-pointers to only two for the Waves.

Pepperdine came out of halftime on an 11-3 run to take their first lead at 43-41. That changed the complexion of the game and over the next eight minutes there were six ties and six lead changes.

The game was tied 54-all with 11:52 left. Then Woods led a 13-6 Viking run, scoring five along the way. But the Vikings couldn't sustain the rally as they went cold in the final minutes.

Pepperdine shot 55% after halftime and finished at .418 for the game. The Vikings made only 10-32 after halftime and shot .383 for the game. In addition, PSU made 16 turnovers, leading to 20 Pepperdine points.

Alonzo Walker led PSU with 10 rebounds.
Kyle Greeley came off the bench to hit 3-3 three-pointers for nine points.

GAME NOTES: Portland State got
Alonzo Walker and
Sal Nuhu back into the lineup against Pepperdine. Nuhu had not played since Nov. 20 due to an ankle sprain. Walker had missed the last 3 ½ games. Walker started and Nuhu came off the bench… Pepperdine leads the all-time series, 4-3, with six of seven games being played in Malibu… the Vikings are now 1-5 on the road this season… with 23 points,
Holland Woods moves up to 17
th on PSU's all-time career scoring list with 1,024 points, tying Leon Edmonds (1968-70)… it was Woods' fifth 20-point game of the season… Portland State plays Loyola Marymount on Thursday night at the Galen Center on the campus of USC. Game time is 7 p.m.
