Vikings Fall to Bengals on Field Trip Day

PORTLAND
– The Portland State women's basketball team fell to Idaho State, 64-42, Thursday afternoon in front of a packed Peter W. Stott Center on Field Trip Day. Over 600 students from around the Portland Metro area packed the gym to cheer on the Vikings.
 
Sophomore G Cici West posted her ninth double-double of the season with team highs in both points (10) and rebounds (14). West is averaging 11.2 points and 11.1 rebounds per game at home this season.
 
Freshmen Kian McNair and Pia Jurhar each added eight points in the game.
 
The teams played pretty even through the first quarter as the Bengals led 14-13 after the first 10 minutes of the game. With the scored tied at 17-17 early in the second quarter, the Vikings went cold from the floor. The Bengals went on a 17-0 run and led 34-17 at the break, holding Portland State scoreless over the final 8:49 in the process.
 
Idaho State continued its run over the first few minutes of the third quarter and went up by much as 23 points in the third quarter. Portland State cut the lead to 15 points with 5:03 left in the game, but unfortunately that would be the closest the Vikings would get.
 
ISU's Anna Policicchio led all scorers with 18 points in the game, going 6-for-13 from the floor with three of the Bengal's six three-pointers.
 
Portland State shot a season-low 21.7 percent from the floor, while Idaho State shot 33.8 percent.
 
Idaho State improved to 11-11 overall and 4-7 in Big Sky Conference play while Portland State fell to 3-19 and 1-10.
 
The Vikings have another chance to get in the win column this week when they host the Weber State Wildcats on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. PT. Weber State plays at Sacramento State later tonight.
 
NOTES: Cici West posted her team-best ninth double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds, both team highs … Kian McNair's consecutive free throws made streak ended at 22.
