SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Three Vikings recorded double-doubles on the night but Portland State was unable to pick up a big road win, falling in four sets Saturday night at Sacramento State.

The Hornets (17-11 overall, 11-3 Big Sky Conference) took the match by scores of 25-15, 16-25, 25-21, and 25-14.

Senior OH
Pati Anae led the way for the Vikings with her team-best 13th double-double of the season. She tallied 14 kills and 14 digs along with a trio of blocks. After a slow start to the match, Anae posted five and six kills over the final two frames respectively.

Freshman OH
Caitlin Bettenay posted the eighth double-double of her career with 10 kills and 13 digs. She added two of the Vikings seven service aces. Junior S
Erin Clark posted her 12th double-double of the year with 35 assists and 16 digs. She added three kills and an ace in the match.

The Vikings (15-11, 7-7) fell behind 8-3 early in the opening set. The Hornets maintained a five-point advantage before building a nine-point lead at 19-10 following a 4-0 run. Sacramento State took the first set 25-15 with a service ace, its fourth of the frame.

After hitting .150 in the first set, the Vikings came out in the second and hit .310. Tied at 15-15 midway through, the Vikings closed out the set on a 10-1 run behind tough serving from Clark and Bettenay along with a pair of blocks from
Kylie Copple and
Mikaelyn Sych. Bettenay closed out the second with an ace, her second of the set.

Portland State jumped out to an early lead in the third. Anae put the Vikings up 11-6, which forced a Sacramento State timeout. The Hornets came out of the timeout and stormed back to tie the set at 18-18. They took the lead and went up 22-20, which forced Portland State to use one of its timeouts. Sacramento State took three of the final four points to win 25-21 in the third.

The fourth set was tied at 8-8 before Sacramento State went on an 11-3 run to go up 19-11. The Hornets went on to take the set, 25-14, to win in four.

Sacramento State had three players with double-figure kills led by Madeline Cannon's match-high 20.

Portland State returns home next week for its final Big Sky Conference weekend. The Vikings host Weber State on Thursday, November 10 before hosting Idaho State on Saturday, November 12 for Senior Night. Both matches are slated for 7 p.m. PT starts.
