PORTLAND – The Vikings could not keep up with the Hornets three-point shooting as they fell 126-78 Saturday afternoon at the Peter W. Stott Center.

Sacramento State hit an NCAA record 25 three-pointers in the game going 25-for-55 (45.5 percent). The Hornets shot 46.0 percent from the floor for the game.

The Hornets pressed the Vikings from the opening tip. They pressured and trapped the Vikings on every inbounds play through most of the game. The pressure turned into 29 turnovers by the Vikings, which led to 36 points for the Hornets.

Portland State kept up with Sacramento State early in the game and trailed by just five points at the end of the first quarter. Sacramento State's real advantage was depth. The Vikings, depleted by injury, suited up just eight players in the game compared to 14 by the Hornets. Sacramento State regularly kept fresh legs on the court by subbing in five players at a time every 2-3 minutes of game play.

The full court press and the fresh legs for the Hornets wore down the Vikings as the game went on. Offensively, when the Vikings were able to break the press, they had a lot of good looks for quick points. The Vikings outscored the Hornets 44-to-36 in the paint led by sophomore G
Cici West's team-high 22 points.

West went 9-for-12 from the floor in the game and 4-for-5 at the line, while pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. It was also her second 20-point and 10-rebound performance of the year.

Sacramento State increased its lead over the final three quarters of the game, putting up 30 points in each en route to the 48-point victory.

Kian McNair added 19 points, three assists, two rebounds, and two steals over 29 minutes. She went 9-for-15 from the floor in the game. Junior G
Ashley Torres Negron added 18 points on 5-of-16 shooting. She went 8-for-12 at the line and accounted for five of the team's 21 assists.

Portland State shot 39.5 percent from the floor against Sacramento State but struggled from distance. The Vikings went just 2-for-15 from three-point range (13.3 percent).

Sacramento State's Brianna Burgos led all scorers with 32 points, going 12-for-23 from the floor and 6-for-15 from three-point range. She did most of her damage in the first half, scoring 25 points.

The Hornets improved to 7-10 overall and 4-2 in Big Sky Conference play while Portland State fell to 2-15 and 0-6.

Portland State will be back home next week for a pair of games at the Stott Center. The Vikings open the week with Eastern Washington on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. The Idaho Vandals come to the Park Blocks on Saturday, Jan. 30 as the Vikings wrap-up the month at home.
