Portland State begins practice at 4 p.m. on Monday at Stott Community Field. A complete practice schedule is listed below.
Coaches and players alike look forward to the opportunity of a new start to the season and the program. In the off-season
Bruce Barnum took over as Head Coach, while Viking Athletics also made a transition in administration with the hiring of Director of Athletics
Mark Rountree. Those changes have led to a new energy in the PSU program as it seeks to work its way back up the Big Sky Conference standings.
Portland State will take on a challenging schedule in 2015 as it tries to improve on last year's 3-9 record, 2-6 in the Big Sky Conference. A group of 58 letterwinners return as well as 16 starters. Interesting position battles will take place at quarterback and running back, while an experienced, veteran defense that includes 15 seniors and seven juniors among the regular rotation plans to be more productive and opportunistic.
With 58 letterwinners, 18 redshirts and 10 transfers available during spring football, Barnum was able to implement effective tweaks to the Vikings offense and defense leading into 2015.
Portland State opens the 2015 season at Washington State on Sept. 5 in a game televised on the Pac-12 Network. The first Big Sky Conference game is Sept. 12 at Idaho State. PSU opens at home on Sept. 26 against Western Oregon. Big Sky home dates include North Dakota (Oct. 3, Hillsboro Stadium), Montana State (Oct. 17, Root Sports), Montana (Oct. 31) and Southern Utah (Nov. 14).
The Vikings also play at North Texas (Oct. 10), with other conference games at Cal Poly (Oct. 24), Northern Colorado (Nov. 7) and Eastern Washington (Nov. 21).
Portland State football radio broadcasts will air on Rip City Radio 620 AM again this year.
