PORTLAND
– The Sacramento State Hornets ran away with it in the second half taking a fast-paced, run-and-gun, game by a score of 92-60 Saturday night at the Peter W. Stott Center.

The Vikings shot a season-high 53.5 percent from the floor but turned the ball over a season-high 38 times which led to 47 points for the Hornets.

Junior G Emily Easom led the Vikings with 18 points going 5-for-7 from the floor, 1-for-2 from three-point range, and 7-for-9 from the line. It was the 17th time this season that she scored in double-figures.

Senior F Mikaela Rivard added 17 points going 6-for-11 from the floor. Lauren Holt added 10 points with five field goals. Portland State went 2-for-4 from three-point range as a team, its fewest three-point attempts this season.

Sacramento State came into the game as the league's highest scoring team averaging 84.6 points per game. The method to the Hornets' madness is a full-court press the entire game and to get out and run. They do not shoot a high percentage but they outscore you with the sheer volume of shots. No Hornet played more than 24 minutes as they routinely subbed in five players at a time.

Gretchen Harrigan led the Hornets with 18 points going 8-for-13 from the floor. She also pulled down seven of the Hornets' 47 rebounds.

Portland State scored the first four points of the game but a 13-0 run by Sacramento State gave the Hornets the lead. The Hornets went on another 12-2 run to go up 25-9 midway through the first half. At that point, 21 of the Hornets' 25 points came off PSU turnovers.

The Vikings countered with a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 40-28. Sacramento State led 42-29 at the break but it could have been worse as the Hornets went cold shooting from the floor and missed their last 13 shots of the half.

Sacramento State missed its first four shots of the second half to extend its cold streak to 0-for-17 but the streak came to an end with a three-pointer, the first of six in the half for the Hornets.

The cold shooting turned hot for the Hornets who went on an 18-3 run to go up 60-36 with 12:48 left in the game. Sacramento State extended its lead as the Hornets kept pressing the Vikings who played with just seven players. The Hornets extended their lead to as much as 37 points before winning by the final score of 92-60.

Sacramento State improved to 10-12 overall and 8-3 in Big Sky Conference play while Portland State fell to 3-19 and 1-10.

Saturday's game was the first of three-straight home games for the Vikings. They will host Idaho on Thursday, Feb. 12 before hosting Eastern Washington on Saturday, Feb. 14.

NOTES: Porltand State's starters were Nele Aha, Ani Avanessian, Lauren Holt, Emily Easom, and Mikaela Rivard … Portland State turned the ball over a season-high 38 times.
