Vikings Fall to Coyotes on the Road

VERMILLION, S.D. – The Portland State women's basketball team suffered its toughest loss of the season Saturday afternoon in Vermillion, S.D., falling to the University of South Dakota 103-61.
 
Freshman G Kian McNair posted her second-straight double-digit scoring performance with a career-high 18 points to lead the Vikings. She went 7-for-16 from the floor with a trio of three-pointers.
 
Freshman F Pia Jurhar scored a career-high eight points, going 2-for-5 from the floor and 4-for-6 from the free-throw line. She also pulled down seven rebounds.
 
Sophomore G Cici West continued her solid rebounding performance with eight boards along with eight points in the game. She is now averaging 7.3 points and a team-high 8.9 rebounds per game.
 
Portland State struggled offensively in the game shooting 33.9 percent from the floor and 20.8 percent from three-point range. The Vikings turned the ball over 23 times which led to 39 points for the Coyotes.
 
South Dakota controlled the paint in the game outscoring the Vikings 58-to-26. The Coyotes pulled down 51 rebounds, 16 on the offensive glass, which led to 22 second chance points.
 
Portland State scored the first basket of the game, a Jurhar jumper, but that was its only lead of the game. South Dakota increased its lead throughout the game leading 54-22 at the half. The Coyotes went up by as much as 46 points, late in the fourth quarter, before wining by the final 103-61 margin.
 
South Dakota improved to 5-3 on the season with the win, while Portland State fell to 0-7.
 
The Vikings have a full week of practice before they host the Corban Warriors on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the Peter W. Stott Center. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
