PORTLAND – Freshman G
Corey James posted a career-high 23 points but the Vikings fell to the UC Davis Aggies, 82-70, Friday night at the Peter W. Stott Center.
Â
James' 23 points, the most by a Viking this season, came on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor with four three-pointers. She also went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line and racked up three assists and a pair of steals.
Â
Portland State jumped out to an early eight-point lead at 12-4, after hitting four of its first five shots from the floor. Then the shooting cooled. The Vikings went 1-for-10 throughout the rest of the first quarter and trailed 20-14 after the first 10 minutes.
Â
The Vikings trailed the remainder of the game as the Aggies built up a double-digit lead.
Ashley Torres Negron cut the lead to single-digits, 36-27, with a free-throw at the end of the first half.
Â
James opened the second half with a three-pointer to cut the lead to six points but that would be the closest they would get throughout the remainder of the contest. The Aggies went up by as much as 17 points and won by a final 82-70 margin.
Â
Torres Negron scored 11 points in the game, nine coming in the first half. She went 3-for-7 from the floor with a pair of three-pointers.
