MOSCOW, Idaho – The Portland State women's basketball team fell to the University of Idaho Vandals 77-49 Saturday afternoon in Moscow, Idaho. It was the first Big Sky Conference game between the two schools.

Ani Avanessian scored a career-high 16 points for the Vikings in the loss going 5-for-9 from the floor with a 3-pointer. She also went a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line as the Vikings went 11-for-17 from the charity stripe as a team.

Lauren Holt added 13 points going 5-for-13 in 39 minutes. Portland State shot 30.8 (16-for-52) percent from the floor and 60 percent (6-for-10) from 3-point range.

The Vikings struggled on the glass and were out-rebounded 44-to-25 and had just nine second-chance points. They were also outscored 27-0 in bench scoring. Portland State's five starters averaged 36.2 minutes played.

The Vandals shot 50.8 percent from the floor and had three scorers in double-figures led by Stacey Barr's 22 points. Barr went 10-for-14 from the floor with six rebounds.

Idaho led by just one point at 24-23 with 6:57 remaining in the first half after an Avanessian 3-pointer. The Vandals finished out the remainder of the half on a 12-2 run to lead 36-25 at the break.

Idaho went on another run to begin the second half, which put the game out of reach. The Vandals extended its lead to the final margin of 28 points. The Vandals held a decisive 40-12 scoring advantage in the paint.

Idaho improved to 8-8 overall and 2-3 in Big Sky play while Portland State fell to 3-14 and 1-5.

The Vikings return home next week for a pair of conference games. They will host Weber State Thursday, Jan. 22 and Idaho State on Saturday, Jan. 24.Â
