Pilots Out-Maneuver Vikings in Cross-Town Showdown

PORTLAND
– Junior G Emily Easom scored 20 points but the Portland State Vikings fell to cross-town rival University of Portland, 91-63, Friday night at the Chiles Center.
 
Easom hit an early three-pointer to give the Vikings their only lead of the game at 7-6 before the Pilots went on a 10-0 run to go up 16-7. Portland increased its run to 21-4 after a three-pointer gave it a 27-11 lead with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half.
 
The Pilots led 43-25 at the break and led by as much as 36 late in the second half before taking the game 91-63.
 
Easom led the Vikings with her first 20-point game of the season. She went 6-for-9 from the floor including 4-for-9 from three-point range. She also went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and added a pair of assists.
 
Senior F Mikaela Rivard added 15 points doing a lot of her damage at the line going 7-for-8. The Vikings went 23-for-30 at the line as a team, both season highs.
 
Portland controlled the game down low out-scoring Portland State 48-16 in the paint. The Pilots also held a decisive 44-to-24 rebounding advantage.
 
Junior C Alicia Carline scored 12 points for the Vikings while adding a team-high seven rebounds.
 
Portland improved to 2-6 on the season while Portland State fell to 1-7.
 
The Portland State Vikings are back in action Sunday afternoon when they take on the Western Washington Vikings at the Peter W. Stott Center. Tip is slated for 2 p.m. PT.
