Vikings Fall in Straight Sets on Senior Day

PORTLAND, Ore.
– The Portland State Vikings fell to the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks in straight sets on Senior Day. The 'Jacks took the match by scores of 25-18, 25-15, and 25-19.
 
Senior OH Leigh-Ann Haataja led the Vikings with 10 kills. She hit .500 (6-1-10) in the first set and finished the match hitting .241 with a team-high four blocks.
 
Senior OH Cheyne Corrado had eight kills for the Vikings along with a season-high 20 digs. It has the third time in her career she has posted 20-or-more digs in a match.
 
Senior L Kasimira "Kasi" Clark added a match-high 21 digs. It was the second time this season that two Vikings have tallied 20 digs in the same match. Kasi Clark's 21 digs was also the most by a Viking in a three-set match this season.
 
The Vikings (9-19 overall, 7-9 Big Sky Conference) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first set but the Lumberjacks (20-7, 11-5) came right back and tied the set at 7-7. The teams traded points before NAU was able to go on a run to go up 13-10. The 'Jacks kept the lead and took the first set 25-18. Haataja posted six kills in the first set.
 
NAU went on a 6-1 run to open up the second set. PSU trailed 20-11 late in the set before going on a 4-0 run to try and get back into it. Northern Arizona finished out the set on a 4-1 run to take it 25-15 and go up 2-0 in the match.
 
After being down 10-5 in the third set the Vikings battle back to tie it at 16-16. The teams traded points to 19-19 but the Lumberjacks finished out the match on a 6-0 run capped by a pair of aces to complete the sweep with a 25-19 win in the third.
 
NAU's Janae Vander Ploeg posted a match-high 11 kills. The 'Jacks had five players with double-digit digs and out-blocked the Vikings 17.0-to-7.0.
 
Portland State will be the No. 6 seed in next week's Big Sky Tournament after Montana lost in straight sets at home to Montana State. Portland State will face the No. 3 seed in the tournament quarterfinals on Thursday, Nov. 20.
 
NOTES: Kasimira "Kasi" Clark, Cheyne Corrado, Anna Demots, Leigh-Ann Haataja, and Katie O'Brien all played their final home match for PSU … Kasi Clark posted a match-high 21 digs, the most by a Viking in a three-set match this season … Cheyne Corrado posted 20 digs, her first 20-dig match of the season, third of her career.
