SACRAMENTO, Calif.
– The Portland State Volleyball team picked up their first road win of the season Saturday afternoon with a three-set sweep of the Sacramento State Hornets. The Vikings took the match my scores of 25-22, 25-19, and 25-22.

Sacramento State has historically been a tough place to play for the Vikings. Coming into Saturday's match, the Hornets led 18-3 all-time in Sacramento. It was the third time that PSU has won on the road in the series under eighth-year Head Coach Michael Seemann.

Senior outside hitter Cheyne Corrado continued her hot hitting streak with a match-high 16 kills and hit .394 for the match. Corrado added eight digs and a service ace. Corrado has tallied 15-plus kills in each of the last four matches including a career-high 23 kills Thursday night at North Dakota.

The Vikings hit a season-high .282 as a team tallying 47 kills over the three sets with just 14 errors in 117 attacks. Senior middle Blocker Katie O'Brien added nine kills for the Vikings while Sarah Liva and Leigh-Ann Haataja each added seven kills.

Senior libero Kasimira "Kasi" Clark inched closer to the Portland State all-time career digs record with 18 against the Hornets. Clark trails Eavi Shovlin's record of 1,742 by just 45 and is three digs away from 1,700 for her career.

Portland State (6-14 overall, 4-4 Big Sky Conference) led wire-to-wire in the first set and took it 25-22. The Vikings got out to an early 3-1 lead before pushing their advantage to six points at 16-10, which forced the Hornets to call a timeout. Sacramento State went on a run late to pull within one at 21-20. The Vikings scored on four of the next six points to take the set 25-22.

Portland State went up by three at 6-3 before Sacramento State (5-18, 0-8) came back to tie the set at 11-11. The Hornets took their first lead of the match at 14-13 but it was short lived. The Vikings went on a 6-0 run to go up 19-14 behind tough serving from Corrado. The Vikings closed out the set to win 25-19 to go up two sets to none. The Vikings tallied four aces in the set, all by different players.

The Vikings jumped out to a commanding 8-1 lead behind more tough serving. The Hornets would not go quietly and came back to tail by one at 14-13. Portland State maintained the lead and won it on a kill from Corrado. Corrado hit .400 for the set with seven of her 16 kills in the final frame.

Lauren Kissell led Sacramento State with nine kills for the match.

Portland State heads back out on the road next week when the Vikings travel to Big Sky country to take on Montana and Montana State.
