Trubachik Breaks Portland State Heptathlon Record at UW Invitational

SEATTLE, Wash. – Senior Nick Trubachik broke his own school record in the heptathlon this weekend with his performances in the UW Invitational at Dempsey Indoor. Trubachik scored 5,307 points, surpassing his old mark of 5,261 set at last year's Big Sky Indoor Championship. He was 18 points shy of the NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

The Estacada, Ore., native, made several large jumps in his personal-bests, most notably in the pole vault as he cleared 14-7.25 to assume No. 2 in the PSU record book. Trubachik also improved his mark in the high jump at 6-6, in the 60-meter dash with a 7.37 and in the shot put with a 46-5.5. His tally in the high jump also puts Trubachik No. 2 in the record book.

Freshman Jeff Borgerson improved his personal-best in the high jump, clearing 6-5.5, an improvement of half an inch. Borgerson's mark places him No. 3 in the Portland State record book.

Newcomer Nate Lightner shaved over a second off his PR in the 400-meter dash, as he ran a 49.52, qualifying for the Big Sky Indoor Championship. His previous best was 50.52. Lightner just missed out qualifying in the 200-meter race, but finished 14th overall with a 22.68.

On the women's side, sophomore Joenisha Vinson qualified for the championship in the pentathlon with 3,196 points, the fifth-best performance in Portland State history. She placed third in the long jump with her season-best 18-1.75 and finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a 8.82.

In the 200-meter dash, junior Karene King posted a time of 25.00 flat, to take over third in the Portland State record book. King tied her season-best time in the 60-meter dash with a 7.62.

Finally, sophomore Quiana Jackson qualified for the Big Sky meet in the 400-meter with her 58.30. Jackson's time is the fourth-fastest in school history and places her amongst the top-10 in the conference this season.

The Vikings will return to action next weekend with a trek to the Big Apple for the New Balance College Invitational.
