I am confident that Portland State Athletics will experience all of these things and more in the next few seasons. However, success doesn't just happen. It requires planning, hard work, risk-taking, and even a little luck. It also requires external support. In order for the next few years to be what we envision, the Athletic program will require the financial and moral support of all its constituents, including alumni, students, local businesses and new friends in the community.
I'm thrilled to be at Portland State during such an exciting time for the University and Athletic program. We have tremendous opportunities for success in a number of sports. There is renewed energy for the Vikings in Portland and we are giving PSU faithful and sports fans something to talk about. It is imperative that Portland State take advantage of this great opportunity. I commit to you that Portland State Athletics will provide the planning, the hard work, and the risk-taking. We are counting on you to provide the external support. In doing so, together we can make our own luck, and a little history.

What is the Viking Athletic Fund?
Portland State Athletics' mission is to provide the necessary scholarship funding to allow as many student-athletes as possible the opportunity for an athletic and academic experience at Portland State University.
To reach this mission, the Viking Athletic Fund (VAF) was established in 1986 to further support PSU athletics through private philanthropy and visibility. 20 years later, the VAF, with the support of Viking Backers, helps Portland State Athletics provide financial support to student-athletes as they pursue their academic goals and athletic dreams.
The Viking Athletic Fund (VAF) is the annual giving program for the Portland State University Athletic Department. The VAF was developed to generate private and corporate annual gifts for Portland State's broad-based intercollegiate athletic program. All Viking supporters that donate to the VAF become members of the Viking Backer Booster Club.
The Viking Backer Booster Club is the principle fund-raising component of PSU Athletics. The club provides a way for individuals to help talented young student-athletes receive a quality education from Portland State University, while ensuring that PSU's tradition of excellence on and off the field continues to grow.
Viking Backers are dedicated to the improvement and development of PSU's athletic programs. Members are friends, alumni, and advocates of the university who recognize the value of intercollegiate athletic experience and enthusiastically participate in a variety of ways. Once you donate to the VAF, you become a member and become an integral part in building futures for promising student-athletes at Portland State University.
In addition to the satisfaction of supporting the educational efforts of PSU's student-athletes, there are a number of fantastic benefits of VAF membership. Some of these benefits include: priority season tickets, hospitality, parking privileges, and invitations to special events.
