The Portland State men's basketball team finished the 2007-08 season ranked 24th in the Mid-Major Poll, sponsored by collegeinsider.com. The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit League, Sun Belt, West Coast.

The Vikings had a record-breaking 23-10 season, won the Big Sky Conference championship and advanced the NCAA Division I Tournament for the first time in their history. PSU lost to eventual national champion Kansas in the opening round of the tournament.

PSU was 2-1 against schools ranked ahead of them in the Mid-Major poll. The Vikings earned wins over IUPUI (19th, 26-7) and Akron (21st, 24-11), while losing to Cal State Fullerton (12th, 24-9) during the season. Portland State was the only Big Sky school to receive votes in the poll.

In addition, collegeinsider.com named Ken Bone as the Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year. Jeremiah Dominguez was selection as the Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Player.
