Viking Wrestling Yields To Bakersfield, 37-13

Portland, Oregon- The Portland State Vikings fell to the California State-Bakersfield Roadrunners in Saturday's Pac-10 dual, 37-13.

The loss dropped the Vikings to 0-5 against Pac-10 opponents and to 1-7 on the season. Meanwhile the Roadrunners improved to 5-1 overall with a 4-1 record against Pac-10 opponents. Bakersfield completed its sweep through Oregon as they defeated all three Pac-10 Oregon schools (Oregon, Oregon State, Portland State).

Senior Dale Seley (174 lbs) picked up his third-straight victory with a win over Bakersfield's Jason Points. The match was knotted at two each going into the final period. Seley completed an escape followed by two takedowns in the final minute. Seley completed the match without giving Points a single takedown and went on to win 7-3. The victory improves Seley's record to 5-2 on the season and has a 2-0 record against Pac-10 opponents.

Following a Jacob Antoine (184 lbs) loss, senior Rockland 'Jake' Schneider made his first Portland State appearance. Schneider won his season debut over Ernesto Ancona in the 197 pound weight-class. Schneider had a 2-0 lead after the first period and went on to create a 5-0 gap heading into the third period. He managed three escapes, a takedown, plus a point for riding time to take the match 10-4.

Sophomore Zack Smith won the heavyweight division by forfeit. The win moved Smith to 5-12 on the season.

The Vikings will take flight next week for California as they compete against Melo College and Stanford, Friday. Portland State will then participate in Saturday's San Francisco Open. Check back to www.GoViks.com for the latest Viking news and updates.
