Portland, Ore. - Portland State linebacker Joey King has been named to the NCAA 1-AA Athletics Directors Association Academic All-American team. King was one of just 31 players selected from all over the country.
A sophomore from Spokane, King is just the second Viking to earn the honor in the six-year existence of the program. Former quarterback Juston Wood was named to the team each of the past two years.
King was one of 93 nominees in 1-AA football. Of the 31 players selected to the team, eight were from the Big Sky Conference.
King was named a first team All-Big Sky Conference linebacker in 2003. He led the Vikings with 93 tackles in 10 games. King made 8.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, one interception, and returned a fumble for touchdown. He maintains a near 4.0 GPA while majoring in Psychology at Portland State.
