OGDEN, Utah - Following her two goal performance over the course of two matches this past weekend, junior
Melissa Trammell has been named the Big Sky's Offensive Player of the Week. It is the first such award of her collegiate career.
Trammell, a native of Yakima, Wash., scored the Vikings second equalizer goal against Louisiana-Monroe in the 69th minute, that eventually led Portland State to overtime. PSU would eventually win the double overtime contest in the 104th minute against ULM, 3-2.
The following day versus Albany, Trammell scored the Viks insurance goal in the 86th minute of play. Trammell received a pass from freshman
Teal Sigler on a bicycle kick and chipped it over the goalie for her second goal of the season.
Trammell transferred to the Park Blocks from Pepperdine University, where she played her first two seasons of collegiate soccer. This weekend's goals, mark the second and third of her career, as she scored one her freshman season for the Waves.
She is the first Viks Player of the Week recipient in 2010 and the last since Oct. 26, 2009, when Dolly Enneking and
Emily Rohde were respectively named Offensive and Defensive Player's of the Week by the Big Sky.
The Vikings back-to-back three goal performances mark the first time since Oct. 10 and 12, 1999 that the Vikings have scored three or more goals in consecutive matches. The feat had never been accomplished against two Division I schools.
Portland State returns to action Sept. 10 at Oregon State.
