Portland, OR - A sweet-shooting Dominic Waters scored 32 points in leading Portland State to its' home-opening win over Cal Poly, 92-83. Waters hit 10-15 from the field and 10-11 at the line as the Vikings shot a school record .674 from the field.

The win, which improved PSU to 1-3 on the season, was the first for new Viking Head Coach Tyler Geving. PSU has now won eight straight games in the Stott Center.

Cal Poly dropped to 0-3 with the loss.

Portland State shot 31-46 from the field on its record-breaking night. As it turned out, they needed to do so as 11 first-half turnovers and poor rebounding by the Vikings kept Cal Poly in the contest.

PSU led virtually the whole game. The Vikings shot .714 in the first half and built a 13-point lead on two occasions. The score was 44-35 at halftime as the Mustangs stayed within reach by grabbing 11 offensive rebounds and turning them into 11 second-chance points.

More strong offensive rebounding and good three-point shooting allowed Cal Poly to whittle away at PSU's lead. Finally, the Mustangs took a brief lead, 70-69, on a jump shot by Charles Anderson with 7:14 to play in the game.

But, Waters scored nine of his 32 points over the final six-and-a-half minutes in leading Portland State to the win. The Vikings made 10 of 11 free throws down the stretch as well to secure the win.

For the record, PSU shot .674 from the field, breaking the old school record of .654 (34-52) in win over Idaho State on Feb. 23, 2002. The Vikings were 7-13 from three-point range (.538) and 23-29 at the line (.793). PSU was shooting just .413 from the field going into the game.
