TEAM NOTES
• The Vikings are coming off their second ever trip to the NCAA Division I Tournament. They also advanced to the NCAAs in 2006. This past spring they were sent to the Stanford Regional, where they lost 10-3 to #5 Stanford, and 5-0 to #22 Cal Poly. Portland State is now 1-4 all-time in NCAA Division I regional games.
• Portland State won the 2009 Pacific Coast Softball Conference title with a 15-5 record despite being tabbed to finish fourth in the preseason coaches poll. It was the schools' second PCSC championship, joining the 2006 squad.
• In just her first season, Head Coach Tobin Echo-Hawk was honored as the PCSC Coach of the Year. Portland State also took home two other top awards, with the now-graduated Jackie Heide (CF) earning co-Player of the Year honors, and Nichole Latham (RHP) being named the conference's Pitcher of the Year. In all, five PSU players landed on the PCSC first team. Joining Heide and Latham were Jamee Rauch (3B), Jana Rae Slayton (1B) and Kristin Wilson (UTL), all of whom have graduated. Two players earned second team honors: the now-graduated Jenna Wilson (OF) and RHP Tori Rogers.
• Both Jackie Heide and Nichole Latham were selected to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Pacific Region first team. Heide and Latham join four other Vikings that have been named all-region since PSU moved up to the DI ranks in 1999.
• Tori Rogers threw the second no-hitter in PSU history at the Division I level last season when she blanked McNeese State, 10-0, on Feb. 6. In her first appearance as a Viking, the transfer from New Mexico struck out five and walked five in the five-inning victory. It was PSU's first no-hitter since April 9, 2006.
• Portland State is 121-107 since 2006, including 51-28 in the PCSC.
• The Vikings are 32-7 at Erv Lind Stadium in PCSC games since 2006.
• The PCSC has expanded from six to 12 teams for the 2010 season. The Vikings will be in the six-team Mountain Division, joining conference newcomers Idaho State, Northern Colorado, Seattle, Utah Valley and Weber State. In the Coastal Division will be PCSC holdovers Loyola Marymount, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Diego and Santa Clara. The sixth team is newcomer Cal State Bakersfield.
