SPOKANE- The Viking soccer team dropped its second match of the season Sunday, falling 1-0 to the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
The game's lone score came from junior D Christi D'Agostino, who collected a rebound and put the ball past junior GK Cris Lewis in the 52nd minute. The shot was one of five on goal for the Bulldogs, compared to three for Portland State.
For the second-consecutive game, the Viking offensive attack was more productive in the second half than the first. After taking two shots in the first half, Portland State registered six in the second 45 minutes of play, two of which were on goal. Gonzaga's 14 shots were split evenly between the first and second periods.
Seven players accounted for the Vikings' eight shots in the game, compared to three who fired in Friday's loss against Oregon State. Junior F/M Dolly Enneking has taken the most shots for Portland State in the early season, adding two on Sunday to give her a total of five for the year.
Gonzaga held the edge in corner kicks, 8-4, and committed 13 fouls to the Vikings' five.
Portland State's home opener will be played at 7 p.m., Aug. 30 at the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation Center against USC.
