HEAD FOOTBALL COACH, 1993-2006
Walsh was the longest tenured and winningest football coach in Portland State history, coaching 14 seasons and compiling a 90-68 record. This despite having to lead PSU through the hard knocks of moving from Division II to Division I in the 1990s. Walsh coached four NCAA playoff teams (1993, 1994, 1995 and 2000), including leading the Vikings to the Division I playoffs in just their fifth year at the higher level. For that effort, he was an Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year finalist in 2000. Walsh's teams had 10 winning seasons and he is one of just three PSU football coaches with career winning records. Walsh also led PSU to its first two wins over FBS level programs (Hawai’i 45-20, in 2000 and New Mexico, 17-6, in 2006).
