FOOTBALL, 1969-70
Tim Von Dulm was the first quarterback to establish the Portland State football program as a “throwing team”. Many great quarterbacks have passed through the Park Blocks since Von Dulm’s time, but he was the first Viking ever to throw for more than 15 touchdowns in a season (26 in 1969 and 25 in 1970) and 3,000 yards in a season (3,041 in 1970).
Despite playing just two years, Von Dulm was one of PSU’s all-time greats, completing 500 passes for 5,967 yards and 51 touchdowns. He ranks in the top five in many important statistical categories and, more importantly, led Viking program to its first back-to-back winning seasons (6-4 both seasons under Coach Don Read).
