Teri Mariani is perhaps the most unique individual in the history of Portland State University athletics. The Hall of Fame Selection committee decided that rather than wait to for her to conclude an incredible career as PSU softball coach, it would be unthinkable to postpone recognition of Teri’s contribution to the University’s athletic program.

Teri was a dominant player and team leader in three sports when all of the nation’s universities competed in one division in women’s sports.

She was captain of the women’s volleyball team that earned three straight national tournament berths and two top-ten finishes. She also led the basketball team to the national championship tournament.

An outstanding shortstop and pitcher, Teri later played three years of professional softball.

Teri coached Portland State softball for 29 seasons, leading the team to third in the nation in 1991, fourth in 1980 and 1982, and is the winningest coach in Portland Athletics history - men or women - with 663 victories. She was also a long-time administrator, holding virtually every position in the Athletic Department, including interim Athletic Director twice.
