TRACK & FIELD, VOLLEYBALL, 1991-96
A two-sport star at Portland State, Robin Unger excelled on both the track and the volleyball court. Unger first gained notoriety playing volleyball as she helped the Vikings to their fourth National Championship in 1992. Despite playing just two volleyball seasons, Unger was named to the AVCA All-Region Team in 1993 and finished her career ranked fifth in career hitting percentage (.305). But it was as a track and field athlete where Unger truly excelled. During her career, Unger set records in the 100 meter hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump, and heptathlon.

A three-time Division II All-American in the heptathlon, Unger won the national championship in the event in 1995 and 1996, the only Viking to accomplish the feat. Moreover, she earned her second national title while competing with a broken bone in her foot. In 1994, 1995, and 1996 Unger was named PSU’s individual sport Athlete of the Year. Later in 1996, Unger was recognized by the NCAA as the Oregon Woman Athlete of the Year.
