MEN'S BASKETBALL, 1952-56
Paul Poetsch was one of Vanport/Portland State’s first star basketball players. He was a first team All-Oregon Collegiate Conference selection three times (1952, 1955, 1956) and NAIA first team All-District twice (1955, 1956). In 94 games, he scored 1,110 points and the team compiled a 69-25 record. Poetsch was a Viking team captain on two league champions and two NAIA playoff teams. He was named PSU Athlete of the Year in 1955, Co-Athlete of the Year in 1956 and team Most Valuable Player in 1956.
