VOLLEYBALL, 1990-93
Joy Russell may have been the most versatile player on the outstanding volleyball teams put together by coach Jeff Mozzochi in the early 1990’s. Her unique athleticism allowed Russell to play both outside hitter and setter. She was a three-time All-American while playing with a group that compiled a 138-20 record. Russell was an integral part of the 1992 National Championship team as well as teams that placed second, third, and fourth in the nation.
An outstanding student as well, Russell earned Academic All-American honors in 1993. Russell holds the match record for service aces while also ranking among the Portland State all-time top ten in matches played, kills, assists, digs, and aces.
