BASEBALL, 1961-64
As a baseball pitching star, Gordon Riese became the first Portland State athlete to earn first team All-American honors when he was an NAIA All-American in 1963 and 1964. Riese was a second team All-American in 1962. Riese was a four-time Oregon Collegiate Conference All-Star and three-time NAIA District All-Star. He helped lead the PSU to the 1962 NAIA National Championship where the Vikings placed second. Riese was selected to the All-Tournament team. Riese set and held numerous season and career pitching records at Portland State. He finished with a career record of 29-6 and a 1.59 earned run average. A two-time Portland State team MVP, Riese went on to play professionally.
