BASEBALL, 1982-1985
Don Lovell was a baseball star and hitting machine for the Vikings. He established Portland State records for batting average (.379), hits in a season (98) and a career (267), doubles in a season (23) and a career (73) and RBI (155). The Vikings record was 132-80 during his career and PSU won the 1984 Pac-10 North Championship. Within the conference, Lovell set records for batting in a season (.464) and doubles in a career (73). He was first team All-Pac-10 North in 1984 and 1985, earning Pac-10 North Player of the Year and third team All-American in 1985. Lovell was drafted by the Cleveland Indians and played four years of professional baseball.
