HEAD FOOTBALL COACH, 1975-80
Mouse Davis brought tremendous notoriety to Portland State with his revolutionary “Run-and-Shoot” offense that ultimately helped transform the passing game at all levels of football. Davis compiled a 42-24 coaching record and led the Vikings to its first three eight-win seasons in school history. Davis’ teams led the NCAA in passing and total offense from 1975-80 and four times led the NCAA in scoring. He had five Division I-AA All-Americans and produced several players that competed in the NFL including star quarterbacks June Jones and Neil Lomax.

Davis had a highly-successful high school coaching career prior to coming to Portland State, and went on to great success in the professional ranks coaching in the NFL, CFL, USFL, WLAF and the Arena League. Davis even returned to PSU as offensive coordinator in 2007 and 2008, and the Vikings once again led the nation in passing both years. Davis is also a member of the Western Oregon Athletics Hall of Fame and was named state of Oregon Coach of the Year in 1976.
