1962 BASEBALL
The 1962 Portland State baseball team competed at the NAIA level, winning the Oregon Collegiate Conference Championship, then the NAIA District II title. The Vikings advanced to the national Championship in St. Joseph, MO, finishing second in the nation. The Vikings lost to Georgia Southern, 2-0, in the title game. PSU was 25-12 on the season, 12-0 in the OCC under Head Coach Roy Love. Pitcher Gordon Riese was named second team NAIA All-American, while Dennis Heath (SS), Bob Stamsos (C) and Ted Hendry (P) were honorable mention All-Americans. Riese, Heath, Stamsos, Hendry, Don Lowry and Bob Jones were named OCC All-Conference. The NAIA District 2 first team included Hendry, Stamsos, Heath, Jones and Lowry.
