An athletic player with good size... has become an important member of the linebacker corps and is the most experienced defensive player on the team with 34 games and 14 starts... should play at an All-Conference level in 2026... named to the Dean’s List.
JUNIOR SEASON • 2025
Key player in the middle of the Vikings defense... started all 12 games... had 71 total tackles to rank third on the team and 6.5 tackles for loss to rank second... also had two sacks, two quarterback hurries... best game was at North Dakota (9/7) where he had nine tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack and returned a fumble 70 yards for a touchdown... also had nine tackles at BYU (8/30) and against Sacramento State (11/8) for season highs... once again earned Academic All-Big Sky Conference and Academic All-District honors.
SOPHOMORE SEASON • 2024
Played in all 11 games with two starts... had 15 tackles with two tackles for loss on the season... made three tackles, including one for loss, at Washington State (8/31)... also had three tackle games in wins over Idaho State (10/12) and Northern Colorado (11/23)... named Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) and Academic All-Big Sky Conference.
FRESHMAN SEASON • 2023
Played in all 11 games on special teams and as a backup linebacker... had two tackles on the season... named to the Dean’s List in 2023 and earned Academic All-Big Sky Conference honors... a redshirt in 2022.
BEFORE PORTLAND STATE
Lettered four times each in football and baseball at West Seattle High School... a three-time first team All-League linebacker... also earned All-League as a tight end... team MVP... two-year team captain... team won the district championship in 2021... earned first team All-League in baseball... was also a team MVP and team captain... team was a district, league and regional champion in 2022, finishing fourth in the state... earned the West Seattle High School Scholar Athlete Award.
PERSONAL INFORMATION
Son of Corey and Taylor Helmstetler... has one sister, Jaeley... majoring in Business Administration... hobbies are woodworking and water sports.
