RALPH DAVIS - HEAD TRACK AND FIELD COACH, 1954-1970; HEAD FOOTBALL COACH, 1955-56; PROFESSOR OF HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION, 1954-1990

Ralph Davis

Inducted: 1998

Coach Davis was a key member of the Athletic Department from the days in ‘Old Main’ to his retirement. A highly successful track and cross country coach, he worked without a home track for practice or meets. A lack of facilities did not prevent his fielding two national champions and two runner-ups plus winning three OCC titles while never placing below second. In the four years (1967-1970) that PSU was a track independent his teams compiled a 21-8 record. He remained an expert consultant on body conditioning and weight training after his coaching duties has ended. In 1979 he was honored by the Oregon Sportswriters and Sportscasters for his community service excellence in track and field.
