MOSCOW, Idaho —
When records fall, they fall in bunches.

A week after Kaila Gibson and Alex Cisneros swept the school records in the women's and men's 5,000 meters, Saraia Collmer added a third school record for the Portland State track & field program while clearing 11-05.25 (3.49m) in the women's pole vault at the Idaho Duals Friday at the Kibbie Dome.

Collmer broke the record on her first attempt at the height, moving her past the old mark of 11-04.00 (3.46m) that Krystal Saling set in 2005. Collmer had been on the cusp of the record ever since she opened her Viking career at the Vandal Invitational and Multi Events three weeks. Collmer moved up to second all time with a clearance of 10-11.50 (3.34m) at that meet, and took three attempts at what would then have been a school-record 3.49 meters – the height she cleared Friday.

Collmer nearly didn't get a chance to set the record Friday as she missed on her first two attempts at 3.19 meters, her first height of the day. Collmer cleared the bar on her third attempt, however, and then cleared on her first attempts at the next two heights, including the record-breaking height of 3.49 meters.

The Vikings also nearly broke the record in the men's pole vault Friday, which would have given them the sweep of the men's and women's records Friday, a week after they swept the records in the men's and women's 5,000 meters. Keegan Winkle, Viktor Moen and Braden Masanga all took attempts at what would have been a school-record height of 15-07.00 (4.75m) at the Cougar Indoor meet in Pullman, Wash. None of the three cleared any of their three attempts at the height, however, leaving the current school record of 15-06.75 (4.74m) in tact.

Winkle passed until the bar moved up to 4.75 meters, while Moen and Masanga joined the competition earlier on. Moen joined the competition with the bar at 15-01.00 (4.60m) – the height below 4.75 meters – and cleared it on his first attempt. Masanga, meanwhile, took his first attempt of the day with the bar at 4.00 meters, and cleared again at 4.30 meters and 4.60 meters to match Moen.

Moen and Masanga moved into a tie for third all time with their clearances at 15-01.00 (4.60m) Friday, right below Winkle who stands second all time with his personal best of 15-05.00 (4.70m).

Redshirt junior Donté Robinson also competed in the men's pole vault at the Cougar Indoor, completing a rare two-meet, two-state Friday for the Viking multi-eventer after he started the day at the Idaho Duals. Robinson's best mark of the day came in the 60-meter hurdles at the Idaho Duals, where he tied his seasonal best with his finish in 8.55 seconds in the prelims of the event.

Freshman Josh Pikes only competed in one meet and one state Friday, but was every bit as impressive while competing at the Idaho Duals. Pikes placed second in both the 60 and 200 meters at the meet while finishing just off his seasonal bests in both events with times of 6.96 and 22.01 seconds, respectively.

Pikes ranks third all time at Portland State in each event after finishing in 6.90 and 21.87 seconds at the Vandal Invite three weeks ago. Pikes is one of only six Vikings to crack seven seconds in the 60 meters, and the freshman has now done it at two of the three meets at which he's competed as a Viking.

Sophomore Kamal-Craig Golaube remains a threat to break the record in the 60-meter hurdles after he tied his seasonal best in the event Friday. Golaube finished third in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles in 8.25 seconds, tying his time at the Vandal Invite three weeks and putting him just three-hundredths of a second off the school record he tied last season at the Big Sky Indoor Championships.

Golaube finished just off the school record Friday despite hitting two hurdles and knocking over the third hurdle in the finals of the event. Record a clean run next week, and Golaube could have the school record to himself before the Big Sky meet at the end of the month.

Jean-Luc Toku was the lone Viking to record an event win at the meet Friday, as he won the men's triple jump with a mark of 46-02.75 (14.09m) on his second attempt of the day. Toku also made his season debut in the men's long jump, placing second overall with a mark of 21-07.25 (6.58m) on his final attempt. Kevin Luyamba joined Toku in the long jump while competing in his first meet as a Viking, and placed fifth overall with a mark of 20-03.00 (6.17m).

A number of other Vikings recorded personal or seasonal bests at the Idaho Duals, including several in the men's and women's 3,000 meters.

Alana Chaplin led the way for the Vikings in the women's 3,000 meters, as she chopped more than 18 seconds off her personal best with her finish in 10:40.59. Alana Baldwin-Joiner knocked 12 seconds off her personal best with her finish in 11:12.13, while Jocelyn Reynolds set a 13-second seasonal best with her finish in 11:04.55.

Jason Rae posted the biggest improvement of the day in the men's 3,000 meters, as he finished in 8:53.53 – more than 25 seconds better than his first time in the 3,000 meters this season of 9:18.89, set at the Bronco Invitational. Erik Solano, meanwhile, knocked 14 seconds off his personal best in the 3,000 with his time of 9:19.86, while his twin brother Andy Solano set his own personal best with his finish in 9:22.93.

Freshman multi-eventer Kristen O'Handley went three-for-three in personal bests Friday as she competed in the 60-meter hurdles, high jump and long jump at the Idaho Duals. O'Handley placed second in the women's high jump with a clearance of 5-04.25 (1.63m) – a mark that moved her into a tie for eighth all time at Portland State. O'Handley also cracked 17 feet in the long jump with a mark of 17-00.50 (5.19m) on her fourth attempt of the day, and placed third in the finals of the women's 60-meter hurdles with her finish in 9.13 seconds.

In the sprints, sophomore Maya Jackson had one of the best meets of her young Viking career, as she recorded personal bests in both the 200 and 400 meters. Jackson knocked a full second off her personal best in the 400 meters, finishing in 58.46 seconds compared to her old best of 59.51 seconds, set at the UW Indoor Open last season.

Jackson also set a personal best with her finish in 26.14 seconds in the 200 meters, while teammates Nia Powdrell and Katie Baxter joined Jackson in the 200 with seasonal and personal bests, respectively, with their finishes in 25.15 and 25.85 seconds.

Freshman Will Payton matched Jackson with a full-second improvement in the men's 400 meters, as he finished fourth overall in 50.40 seconds Friday. Payton came into the meet with a previous best of 51.47 seconds, set at the Bronco Invitational two weeks ago. Payton also beat his outdoor prep personal best in the 400 meters of 50.56 seconds.

Austen Hvidsten beat his outdoor personal best in the men's 800 meters, and shaved more than five seconds off his indoor personal best with his finish in 1:57.11 at the Idaho Duals Friday. Hvidsten's previous best indoors was 2:02.16, set at the Bronco Invitational two weeks ago, while his previous best outdoors was 1:58.56, set at the Linfield Open last season. Jordan Navy also shaved five seconds off his personal best in the 800 meters with his finish in 2:04.31 Friday, while McKenna Martin beat her personal best in the mile by 15 seconds with her time of 5:28.01.

Angela Mumford added another personal best for the Vikings at the Idaho Duals with a throw of 38-10.50 (11.85m) in the women's shot put. That beat Mumford's previous personal best by two inches, which she set at the Vandal Invite three weeks ago.

The Vikings will return to Seattle and the Dempsey Indoor for two meets next weekend, as they compete at the Husky Classic, Feb. 9-10, and the UW Indoor Open, Feb. 11. Those meets will conclude the indoor regular season for the Vikings, with the Big Sky Indoor Championships scheduled for Feb. 22-24 in Flagstaff, Ariz.
