AUSTIN, Texas — Genna Settle's record-setting Portland State track & field career came to an end Thursday, as the senior failed to advanced out of the first round of the women's 100 meters at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Â
Settle placed seventh in her heat in 11.54 seconds, not far off her seasonal best of 11.48 seconds, but not enough to qualify her for the quarterfinals.
Â
Settle was making her fourth straight appearance at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, something only one other Viking had done before in Jazmin Ratcliff (2012-15).
Â
Settle qualified in the 100 this season on the back of her Big Sky-winning time of 11.48 seconds at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships two weeks ago. Settle swept the 100- and 200-meter titles at the Big Sky outdoor meet, giving her four Big Sky titles in 2017 alone after she also swept the indoor 60- and 200-meter titles at the Big Sky Indoor Championships back in February.
Â
Settle joined Jernise Saunders as the only two Vikings to ever win four Big Sky titles in one calendar year, as Saunders also won the four sprint titles back in 2009. Additionally, Settle joined Saunders and Eastern Washington's Joyce Rainwater as the only three athletes within the Big Sky Conference to ever sweep the conference titles in the indoor 60, indoor 200, outdoor 100 and outdoor 200 meters in one year.
Â
Additionally, Settle became the Vikings' all-time leading point scorer at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships with her 100-200 title sweep this season. Settle moved her career point total at the Big Sky outdoor meet to 59, eight more than the previous career leader, Ashley Quay, who had 51 from 2004-07. Settle also finished tied for the most outdoor individual conference titles in program history with three, and finished tied for the second-most overall individual titles with five.
Â
Settle leaves Portland State with the school records in the indoor and outdoor 200 meters, as well as the conference and Big Sky championship records in the indoor 200. Settle also helped set the school records in the outdoor 4x100 and 4x400 relays, as well as the Big Sky championship record in the 4x100.
