Robinson Wins Decathlon, Richey Second in Heptathlon at Pacific Combined Events

RESULTS

FOREST GROVE, Ore. —
Multi-eventers Ta'mara Richey and Donté Robinson took the mid-week spotlight for the Portland State track & field team, as they completed the heptathlon and decathlon at the Pacific Combined Events Tuesday.

Robinson won the decathlon with 6,328 points, while Richey placed second in the heptathlon with 4,147 points. Both scores placed the athletes in the top 10 all-time in their respective multi-events at Portland State, and Robinson moved up to second in the Big Sky with his score in the decathlon.

Robinson won the decathlon while setting or tying personal bests in nine of the 10 events. Robinson won or tied for first in three of the 10 events, as well, and placed second or tied for second in three more events.

Robinson's best events were the 100 meters, high jump, 400 meters and 110-meter hurdles, as he scored 700 points or more in each event. Robinson scored 801 points while running the 100 meters in 11.27 seconds, the second-best 100-meter time by a Viking this season.

Robinson also scored 768 points while lowering his personal best in the 110-meter hurdles to 15.69 seconds, and tied his overall outdoor personal best in the high jump while scoring 714 points with his mark of 6-02.75 (1.90m).

Richey, meanwhile, set personal bests in five of seven events in the heptathlon. Richey won the two events – 200 meters, long jump – that she didn't set a personal best in, and Richey recorded her highest point totals in those events, as well. Richey scored 788 points while winning the 200 meters in 26.10 seconds, and scored an even 700 points while cracking 18 feet in the long jump with her mark of 18-00.50 (5.50m).

Richey now ranks 10th all-time at Portland State and 12th in the Big Sky this season after completing her first heptathlon as a Viking. Robinson also completed his first decathlon as a Viking at the meet, and now ranks eighth all-time at Portland State. Robinson also ranks second in the Big Sky in the decathlon this season, just 42 points behind the conference-leading total of 6,370 points that Alec Acevado set at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational on the first weekend of the outdoor season.

Robinson and Richey will next compete at the Legends of Track & Field Invitational this Saturday at UCLA's Drake Stadium.
