Settle Sweeps 100, 200 Meters as Vikings Conclude Regular Season at OSU High Performance Meet

RESULTS

CORVALLIS, Ore. —
Senior Genna Settle swept the 100 and 200 meters at the OSU High Performance Meet Saturday, a performance she will hope to repeat two weeks from now as the Vikings turn their attention to the Big Sky Outdoor Championships after wrapping their outdoor regular season at the meet.

Settle took back the Big Sky lead in the 200 meters with her time Saturday, giving her the conference lead in both the 100 and 200 meters at the end of the Vikings' outdoor regular season.

Settle won the 200 in a seasonal-best 23.71 seconds, moving ahead of Northern Colorado's Moriah Zachary, who moved ahead of Settle with an altitude-adjusted time of 23.89 seconds last weekend. Settle's time in the 200 also moved her up in the NCAA west regional rankings, as she moved into a tie for 55th in the west region based on times coming into the weekend. Settle will still likely need to shave a few seconds off her 200-meter time to qualify for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, however.

Settle already stands in qualifying position for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in the 100 meters, and leads the Big Sky in the event by more than two-hundredths of a second off her time of 11.51 seconds at the Texas Invitational.

Settle finished the 100 in 11.74 seconds Saturday, winning the event by more than three-tenths of a second.

Fellow senior Akayla Anderson beat the field in the 100-meter hurdles by .16 seconds, as she finished in 13.85 seconds. Anderson ranks second in the Big Sky in the 100-meter hurdles off her time of 13.68 seconds at the Triton Invitational last week.

A number of other Vikings ended their outdoor regular seasons on strong notes, including freshman Maya Jackson, who set a seasonal best in the 200 meters and nearly matched her seasonal best in the 400 meters.

Jackson finished the 200 meters in 25.95 seconds, beating her Portland State best of 25.99 seconds by four-hundredths of a second. Additionally, Jackson finished the 400 meters in 57.78 seconds, nearly matching the one-second seasonal best she set at 57.70 seconds at the Triton Invitational last week.

Sophomore Troy Bacon, meanwhile, followed up a school record in the men's discus last week at the Triton Invitational with a new personal best in the men's shot put. Bacon finished with a best throw of 45-10.25 (13.98m) Saturday, beating his personal best coming into the meet by nearly four feet.

Junior Ta'mara Richey went over 19 feet in the women's long jump for the third straight meet, as she finished with a best jump of 19-04.00 (5.89m) Saturday. Richey cracked six meters in the long jump for the first time at the Triton Invitational, and ranks second in the Big Sky in the women's long jump off her mark of 19-09.75 (6.04m) last week.

Senior Ben Richardson also finished the men's 800 meters in 1:52.86, his second straight finish in under 1:53. Richardson has been on a tear in the 800 meters of late, going from fighting off an injury to make a season debut of 1:58.87 at the John Knight Twilight on April 7, all the way down to a personal best of 1:51.14 at the Triton Invitational last week.

Richardson also competed on the Vikings' 4x400-meter relay team that finished second in a seasonal best of 3:16.98. Christian Wood, Donté Robinson and Mitchell Gable joined Richardson on the relay, and the four of them moved up to eighth all-time at Portland State in the 4x400-meter relay with their time Saturday.

The Vikings now take a week off before heading to Sacramento, Calif., for the Big Sky Outdoor Championships, May 10-13.
