PULLMAN, Wash. — Freshman
Kamal-Craig Golaube broke out with a personal best in the 60-meter hurdles to lead the Portland State track & field team at the Cougar Indoor Invitational Saturday at the WSU Indoor Practice Facility.
Â
Golaube shaved more than a tenth of a second off his previous personal best in the 60-meter hurdles, as he finished in 8.38 seconds while placing fifth in the prelims of the event. Golaube nearly matched his new PR in the finals of the event, too, as he placed fifth again in the finals in 8.39 seconds.
Â
Golaube's time moved him up to fourth all-time in the 60-meter hurdles at Portland State, and marked the best time in the event by a Viking men's runner since DeShawn Shead ran the hurdles in 8.29 seconds in 2011.
Â
Senior
Akayla Anderson, meanwhile, won the 60-meter hurdles on the women's side for the second straight meet, as she won with her time of 8.72 seconds in the finals of the event. Anderson also won the 60-meter hurdles at the Idaho Duals Friday, and did so by blowing away the field by more than four-tenths of a second with her time of 8.63 seconds in the finals of the event.
Â
Fellow senior
Genna Settle nearly posted another win for the Vikings in the finals of the 60 meters, as she placed second in a seasonal-best time of 7.61 seconds. Settle's time placed her just four-hundredths of a second behind Washington State's Regyn Gaffney in the finals, and moved her up to third in the 60 meters within the Big Sky this season.
Â
Redshirt sophomore
Alex Cisneros also placed third in the mile while setting a new personal best in the event with his time of 4:20.63.
Â
Additionally, freshman
Mikenna Marchment set a new personal best in the indoor shot put with her mark of 32-01.00 (9.78m), while freshman
Justin Simpson and senior
Christian Wood set new personal bests in the men's triple jump. Simpson was making his debut in the triple jump at Portland State, and finished sixth in the event with his mark of 42-09.75 (13.05m). Wood, meanwhile, made his debut in the triple jump at the Idaho Duals a day before, but upped his mark from Friday with his mark of 42-05.25 (12.93m).
Â
The Vikings will return to action at two different meets next weekend, as the Vikings send athletes to the Husky Classic and UW Indoor Open in Seattle, as well as the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque. Both meets start Friday, Feb. 10.
