Portland, OR - Portland State left little doubt that their early-season successes have been no fluke, taking down Portland Bible College, 125-50, in a non-conference game.

The Vikings improved to 6-2 on the season, winning their second game in a row, and improving to 3-0 at home. PSU's 75-point win was the largest margin of victory in school history.

Heavy favorites against the lower division Wildcats, Portland State leaned on its pressure defense to make the difference in this one. The Vikings forced 38 turnovers by Portland Bible, scoring 52 points off those turnovers. The Vikings scored 43 points on the fast break.

"We had a great opportunity to get everybody to play. I thought the guys were fantastic sharing the ball. We had 36 assists and they really played the right way," said Viking Coach
Barret Peery. "That was a game the guys knew before it started they were probably going to win, but they handled themselves the right, playing the right way and playing our way."

Portland Bible got off to a good start, handling the Viking press and avoiding a turnover for the opening five minutes of the game. The Wildcats led 6-4 early, but eventually the Vikings got the pace to their liking. Senior forward
Traylin Farris scored six points in a 14-0 PSU run that gave the Vikings control of the game.

Eventually the Portland Bible turnovers came and that fueled the Viking transition game. PSU shot 27-42Â in the first half (.643). The Vikings had 25 points off 16 Wildcat turnovers and a total of 25 fast break points by halftime. Portland Bible was just 12-32 at halftime (.375) and trailed 71-28.

PSU's defensive blitz continued in the second half and the lead grew. That gave everyone a chance to play and all 11 Vikings scored. Six were in double figures.

Bryce Canda posted a game-high 20 points, hitting 9-15 shots. Senior guard
Deontae North had 18 points, five rebounds and four assists. Junior
Deante Strickland had career-highs of 11 assists and eight rebounds in 20 minutes. Freshman guard
Holland Woods made five steals and had 10 assists. Junior forward
Jamie Orme had 15 points and eight rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench.

Ryan Edwards did not play in the game due to illness. Sophomore
Brendan Rumel started in his place and scored a career-high 19 points.

PSU shot 49-86 for the game (.570) to 21-61 for Portland Bible (.344). The Vikings also won the rebound battle, 42-34.

Portland Bible was led by 12 points each from Cameron Jensen and Aaron Deatherage. The Wildcats dropped to 1-9 on the season.

GAME NOTES: The 125 points scored is the most by a Portland State team since scoring 133 against Rocky Mountain on Feb. 3, 1978... the Vikings are 3-0 at home this season. They are 48-8 at home over the last 11 seasons… PSU has won 31 straight games against lower division schools and is 43-1 overall in 22 seasons as a member of the Big Sky Conference… although it has only played three home games, Portland State has played seven of eight games within the city limits of Portland. The Vikings now play seven of their next eight on the road, beginning with Loyola Marymount on Wednesday.
