Robinson Sets Personal-Best First-Day Score in Decathlon at Pacific Combined Events

RESULTS

FOREST GROVE, Ore. —
Portland State senior decathlete Kevin Robinson finished the first day of the decathlon at the Pacific Combined Events Monday with a personal-best first-day score of 3,325 points at Hanson Stadium.

Robinson, who placed fourth in the heptathlon at the Big Sky Indoor Championships at the end of February, finished the day with decathlon personal bests in the long jump, high jump and 400 meters, and won all three events as well. Robinson's 3,325 points also put him only 77 points behind first-day leader Jason Bracken of Corban, leaving him within striking distance of winning the event when it concludes Tuesday.

Robinson got the day started in the 100 meters, finishing in 11.75 seconds to open up the day with 701 points. Robinson followed it up with a win in the long jump, finishing with a personal best of 21-00.00 (6.40m) to beat the No. 2 mark in the event by six inches.

Robinson then finished with a mark of 31-03.75 (9.54m) in the shot put, before wrapping the first day with back-to-back decathlon personal bests and event wins in the high jump and 400 meters. Robinson won the high jump with a clearance of 6-04.25 (1.94m), and then finished a full second ahead of the No. 2 runner in the 400 meters, crossing the line in 51.60 seconds.

The decathlon will resume with the 110-meter hurdles at 9:30 a.m. (PT) Tuesday, and wrap with the 1,500 meters at 3:45 p.m. (PT). Robinson will be chasing the Big Sky qualifying standard in the decathlon on the second day, as well as the overall lead. Robinson will need to finish with 6,200 points or higher to meet the Big Sky qualifying standard.
