PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland State women's soccer team will enter the 2016 season with an expanded horizon as head coach Laura Schott announced an eight-member signing class Friday, adding depth and diversity to the Vikings' 2016 roster.

The Vikings signed three players born outside of their usual recruiting grounds of Oregon, Washington and California, the same number the Vikings had on their entire 2015 roster.

Kasey Isobe and Tamera Mikamura represent two of the three players signing from beyond the continental west coast, as they come to Portland State from Mililani and Aiea, Hawaii, respectively, where they each played for the Hawaii Surf Soccer Club. Isobe and Mikamura become the Vikings' first Hawaiian-born players since Lainey Hulsizer, who finished her PSU career in 2012, as well as the first players to ever play high school and club soccer in Hawaii during Schott's tenure at Portland State.

Additionally, Liv Jillings brings an international presence to the Vikings' roster, as she becomes the program's first Canadian since All-Big Sky player Kala Renard player finished her PSU career in 2011.

The Vikings still signed a lot of players from regional schools, though, as the team also added three players from Oregon and one each from Washington and California in their 2016 signing class. Of the three players from Oregon, two come from the Portland area in Izzy Reichner (West Linn) and Regan Russell (La Salle).

The eight-member class will help bolster the Vikings' numbers next season, as the team lost eight letterwinners from a year ago while returning 13 along with four redshirts.

The Vikings also anticipate signing two more recruits later on in the spring.
